Susan Williams-Ellis was looking around for new themes. Asked by the sales force for a new coffee mug shape, she found an early Nineteenth Century sprigged blue and white mug. This was much admired and from it quickly sprang an entirely new shape, basically cylindrical, but this time with embossed bands running round the pieces. Susan named the new shape Meridian and selected four satin finish colored glazes with a certain random speck in them. The colors were Chocolate Brown, Terracotta, Saffron and Plover Grey. Portmeirion launched the new range in 1971. Meridian, with its simple modern look, was popular but there was, however, a problem with the application of some of the glazes which was never satisfactorily resolved.

Portmeirion Meridian is no longer in production. If you need replacement or additional pieces for your collection of Portmeirion Meridian, monitor this page on a weekly basis for new listings.

Eventually, your item should show up for sale.

When it comes to finding Portmeirion that is difficult to find in stores near you, one of your best resources for acquiring the items you want are sites like Amazon, Etsy, Replacements and eBay, where there are a lot of wonderful finds still in the original boxes. We all receive those odd items as gifts that we have no need for and never use. Yet, one person's junk could be exactly the treasure you want.

Please Note: Not all Portmeirion is safe for use in the microwave. Patterns with gold or platinum decorations around the rim should not be used in your microwave because microwaves can not pass through metal. If in doubt, use this simple test: Is this Utensil Safe for the Microwave?

I am thrilled! There are many more recipes then I expected. I am very excited since my husband often works late and I end up with sandwiches rather then making myself something to eat.. —Barbara Andersen, New York
