Heinz Promotional Casserole by Pyrex

Heinz Promotional Casserole by Pyrex

This 1¾-Quart Casserole was a promotional piece produced without a lid by Pyrex for Heinz in 1953. It was sold in grocery stores for 79¢ with the purchase of three cans of Heinz ready-to-serve dishes. (Click on the Advertisement to the left for a larger image.) Originally the piece was supposed to have a lid but for some reason it was discarded. Perhaps it did not meet quality control standards. There are said to be a few lids that survived, but they are rare and very difficult to find. One piece with the lid showed up on eBay and sold on 12 Apr 2015 for $1,228.59.

If you need replacement or additional pieces for your collection of Pyrex Heinz, monitor this page on a weekly basis for new listings.

When it comes to finding Pyrex that is difficult to find in stores near you, one of your best resources for acquiring the items you want are sites like Amazon, Etsy, Replacements and eBay, where there are a lot of wonderful finds still in the original boxes. We all receive those odd items as gifts that we have no need for and never use. Yet, one person's junk could be exactly the treasure you want.

Please Note: Most Pyrex is safe for use in the microwave. Patterns with gold or platinum decorations around the rim should not be used in your microwave because microwaves can not pass through metal. If in doubt, use this simple test: Is this Utensil Safe for the Microwave?

I am thrilled! There are many more recipes then I expected. I am very excited since my husband often works late and I end up with sandwiches rather then making myself something to eat.. —Barbara Andersen, New York
