Flemish Green by Spode
Flemish Green was introduced after the Second World War. During the years of wartime, no decorated pottery was allowed to be sold in the UK except seconds and export rejects. Tableware was produced for utility purposes. In the case of Spode, tableware was made to exactly the same high standard that was expected from a leading manufacturer. With the slight relaxation in restrictions after the war colored bodies were introduced. Flemish Green was one of these introduced in 1949 and in production until about 1973.
By 1954, the plain Flemish Green body was very popular in Britain, however for the North American, Australia and New Zealand export markets, floral designs by Harold Holdway were added to create patterns including: Jacinth, Mimosa, Montego and Moondrop.
