Ruins by Spode

The Ruins pattern, also known as Melrose, was produced in several colors including grey, pink, brown and black as well as Saxon or flow blue. The services were produced with a different scene, depicting a ruin beside water surrounded by a border of oak leaves and acorns, on each piece. Multi-scene transfer printed patterns of this type had become popular in the 1830s. Ruins was a particularly successful pattern and continued to be produced over a period of 40 or 50 years. The pattern was popular in North America to where it was exported in vast quantities.

Ruins was produced on a shape known as Ruins with embossed decoration in the form of acorns. This shape was later simplified, removing the acorns, at an unknown date and the shape was then given the unlikely name of New Ruins. Other patterns were produced on this shape. In the late 1990s Ruins was reintroduced as part of the Blue Room collection forming part of a set of six patterns in the Regency Dresser Plates.

Spode Ruins is no longer being produced. If you need replacement or additional pieces for your collection of Spode Ruins, monitor this page on a weekly basis for new listings.

When it comes to finding Spode that is difficult to find in stores near you, one of your best resources for acquiring the items you want are sites like Amazon, Etsy, Replacements and eBay, where there are a lot of wonderful finds still in the original boxes. We all receive those odd items as gifts that we have no need for and never use. Yet, one person's junk could be exactly the treasure you want.

Please Note: Not all Spode is safe for use in the microwave. Patterns with gold or platinum decorations around the rim should not be used in your microwave because microwaves can not pass through metal. If in doubt, use this simple test: Is this Utensil Safe for the Microwave?

I am thrilled! There are many more recipes then I expected. I am very excited since my husband often works late and I end up with sandwiches rather then making myself something to eat.. —Barbara Andersen, New York
