Churchill & Queen's China
As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high quality ceramic tableware, Churchill China has a long history of bringing the highest quality products to homes around the world and the hospitality industry. Churchill China is an amalgamation of several family owned potteries dating back to 1795 with the founding of the first factory in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England, and Sampson Bridgwood first manufactured earthenware. The group adopted the Churchill name in 1984. With over 200 years experience Churchill’s craftsman have established a worldwide reputation for producing quality tableware and gifts.
Renowned for its collection of traditional print designs that will remain timeless classics, these Churchill China designs were originally hand engraved on copper plates, a process requiring the utmost skill to create the detail and clarity. The engraved copper plate was covered with ink, to which a fine tissue paper was applied. The paper was then placed directly onto the ware itself and floated off with water. The ink was left on the ware and ready for firing. Churchill’s comprehensive range of decorated English style earthenware is a favorite among collectors.
Many of today's patterns are manufactured under the Queen's China brand. Churchill acquired Queen's China in 1994. Queen's China originated in the Queen's pottery in Staffordshire. The pottery was taken over in the 1940s by Crownford who continued to produce Queen's china under the business name of Rosina until it was acquired by Churchill China.
